Dr. Park received his BS degree in mechanical engineering from the Pohang University of Science and Technology in 1995. Following graduation, Dr. Park entered Seoul National University and received an MS in precision engineering in 1997. After a brief experience in the Laboratory of Optical Storage in the LG Multimedia Research Institute, he entered the mechanical engineering program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison to study microelectromechanical systems (MEMS). He performed his research as a research assistant in the electrical engineering department, producing innovative results and papers. He has extensive experience in microfabrication, including surface, bulk and dissolved wafer processes, and a mechanical engineering approach to design and analysis. After receiving his PhD in 2002, he joined the Center for Engineering in Medicine at the Massachusetts General Hospital as a Postdoctoral Fellow, and he was appointed Research Associate in 2005.
Dr. Park has performed research on microdevices, including bent-beam thermal actuators, microengines, and pressure sensors during his PhD study. In the CEM, he has been involved in bioartificial liver devices, cell patterning, hepatic tissue engineering and stem cell differentiation. Recently he has focused his research on neuro stem cell differentiation. His goal and vision are to integrate his PhD experience with new biological applications.
