First Annual Methods in Bioengineering Conference is a Roaring Success
The Center for Engineering in Medicine, at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School, and the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology hosted the First Annual Methods in Bioengineering Conference on July 17th and 18th, 2006, at the Kresge Auditorium at MIT. The conference showcased state-of-the-art technology from three NIH-funded Resource Centers: The BioMEMS Resource Center (BMRC) at MGH, the Tissue Engineering Resource Center (TERC) at Tufts, Columbia and MIT, and the Center for Integrated Polymeric Biomaterials (RESBIO) at Rutgers. The event drew in more than 340 attendees, 13 exhibitors and over 55 poster presentations. Representatives from academic institutions included graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and faculty representing over 40 institutions throughout the United States and abroad. Highlights of the conference events included keynote lectures from prominent investigators at the Harvard Medical School, and a one-day intensive hands-on microfabrication and microfluidics workshop following the conference. The conference was co-sponsored by Annual Reviews of Biomedical Engineering, Bose, and the journal Tissue Engineering.
